Traditionally, Estonians would build their talu saun (farm sauna) near water bodies, allowing them to cool off in a nearby järv (lake) or jõgi (river) after a hot session. A proper saunaskäik (sauna visit) involves multiple rounds of sweating and cooling, often accompanied by the use of viht (sauna whisk) made from birch branches, which is gently tapped on the body to improve circulation.
