The Estonian Institute is a cultural and educational initiative devoted to promoting the Estonian language and the heritage of Estonia around the world. At the core of the Institute is a passionate team of Estonian language educators and content creators who combine academic rigor with real-life teaching experience and a genuine love for the Estonian linguistic tradition.

KADRI

After studying Estonian literature, she found her natural path in journalism. Living abroad for a period and marrying her husband there turned out to be a turning point. It was there that she realized how little people knew about Estonia, beyond vague geography or Finnish stereotypes, and how rarely its language was even mentioned.

Rather than feeling frustrated, Kadri says she felt motivated. She began to see her background not just as personal history, but as something worth sharing and protecting. Through her and teaching she works to make Estonia more visible and its language less overlooked. She is a proud mother of two.

ARVO

Arvo is the quiet force behind the scenes, carefully proofreading texts and supervising the Estonian language materials to make sure everything feels natural and is  accurate. He has a deep respect for his fatherland and takes pride in teaching his native tongue. He loves sharing his country with others, whether through language, cultural insights, or small everyday details that make Estonia unique. For Arvo, language is closely tied to values, and he often speaks about how proud he is to live in an inclusive and open society where everyone can find their place.

Outside of work, Arvo enjoys unwinding by watching football with friends. He is a devoted supporter of Arsenal and follows the Estonian national team just as closely, celebrating both the big international matches and the smaller moments that bring his friends and family together.

LIIS

Liis spends most of her time preparing our Estonian lessons! When she switches off from work, you’ll likely find her outside, doing winter sports whenever she can. When the weather or schedule keeps her indoors, she happily disappears into books or streaming international series, always curious about stories from different cultures and perspectives.

Teaching, says Liis, is not just about language but about connection. She enjoys helping people feel comfortable and confident, especially when approaching Estonian. More than anything, she hopes that one day you’ll come to Estonia, walk its streets, feel its seasons, and see the country not as a dot on the map, but as somewhere real and worth knowing.

PEETER

With a background in history, Peeter has always been drawn to the stories behind places, people, and words, and that perspective strongly influences the way he teaches. He says that for him learning a language is also a way of stepping into another time and mindset, not just memorizing rules.

He has a genuine love for anything that brings the past to life. Museums are one of his favorite places, but he’s just as happy exploring history through films, theater performances, or historical video games that recreate different eras. He enjoys helping learners see Estonian not as something distant or difficult but as a living language based on a fascinating and ongoing story.

EVELIN

Evelin is the marketing manager behind the scenes, making sure everything you see and read feels coherent and true to Estonia. She takes care of both strategy and visuals, keeping a consistent image across all language and cultural content, while always paying attention to the small details.

She is also a mother of two and part of an international family, with an American-born husband who knows firsthand what it means to adapt to a new country and language. Evelin enjoys quiet moments at home, especially when she’s cooking traditional Estonian dishes and welcoming friends and guests around the table. She wishes you the best of luck in your Estonian studies and encourages you to persevere, just like her husband did when he moved to Estonia and took on the challenge of learning its unique language.

ANDRES

Andres say that he is deeply passionate about teaching Estonian and believes that language learning is at its best when it feels rewarding. For him, lessons are not just about grammar or vocabulary, but about creating a space where curiosity is welcome and mistakes are part of the journey. That is why he hopes you’ll not only learn from his lessons, but truly enjoy them.

When he’s not teaching, Andres spends much of his free time at his family farm, caring for animals, especially horses. He also enjoys connecting with fellow language enthusiasts, exchanging ideas, and helping learners feel more confident as they make progress.
